Happiness is Everywhere.

This weekend, I got a chance to go thrifting with my Momma and sister, Emily!
We had a blast, and found tons of awesome things :)
One of them being this gorgeous navy blue skirt which I wore Sunday.
It is just the perfect length for the brisk weather on it's way!
I paired it with some tan wedges, navy and mustard floral shirt, and mustard and gold belt.

I absolutely love the weather this time of year, with it's sunny mornings, crisp afternoons, and chilly cuddle up and watch netflix while listening to the wind nights :)

I also found, among other things, a new little owl topped bell to marry my other one, my very first enamel flower brooch, an adorable teeny silver teapot clock,
and the freaking sweetest little book I've ever seen.

It's called Happiness is Everywhere, and seriously, sappy sweeter little illustrations have never been made! Ah! I die :D

I hope this day finds you well, readers.
Let me know how you've been! It's been a little quiet around here lately.
As always, have a beautiful day.

Story People

Me and the Yeti just decided to sign another year lease on our little town home, and in honor of this place we've come home to for three years, I decided to do a post highlighting some of our favorite parts. The "tour" starts in the master bedroom:

When you first walk in, on the right there is a humongous black dresser, with the new antigue globe from Leadville, the T.V. we use to watch Bleach every night, an adorable Target storage container in bright blue that holds DVDs, and a matching little fake tree I've made into a photo tree. An owl sock puppet is perched on top :P Above it hang a board of memories from mine and Calvin's relationship, updated from the very very beginning until now and I'm sure until the very end. And above the T.V. hangs the map art heart I made a couple of weeks ago. The bed is in the middle of the room facing out, and above it we hung a few matching typography pictures. "See the Good in All Things." One reads, another is a tandem bicycle, a photo of us, and a few clocks. The record player my father bought me in High school and records is to the left of the bed, and if you turn to the left you'll see:

The bookshelf is a cluttered towering monster that has taken on a life of its own. Upon it rests the owl collection, books, cameras, figurines, a 1930's jewelry box, and a painting by a senile Russian. On each side of it, are chairs that me and my Mom reupholstered and painted, sock monkey Calvin and Grace that she made for us, and our build-a-bear wolves. On the wall hangs a huge fork and spoon painted matte white and black, the antique Aspen picture, and a picture Calvin bought me in Manitou Springs by the Story People which says,

"I read once that the ancient Egyptians had fifty words for sand & the Eskimos had a hundred words for snow. I wish I had a thousand words for love, But all that comes to mind is the way you move against me in your sleep, & there are no words for that."
 It made me cry.
Go to the left further and you'd see the disorganized deck, Calvin's desk, and further left is the bathroom:

The bathroom is bright and blue, it has a bird cage shower curtain, a little wooden stool from our wedding, a gold-leaf antique ashtray to hold jewelry, and a basket of matryoshka soaps. The shower is guarded by a plastic red octopus, but he is camera shy. If you walk out of the bathroom, passed the counter and sinks, then out of the bedroom, you'd be in the kitchen:

It is tiny and the stove has an analog timer. Everything is red and chrome and Coke themed because, like me, Coke is syrupy and nostalgic. There are more flowers, because there should always be more flowers. They are in just a few of many milk glass vases I've collected. On the fridge is a faux wood wall decal that says, "Bake Stir Sprinkle Mix" which is adorable, but a little misleading as I rarely cook. The kitchen is open to the living room:

Which is home to a big plain tan leather couch and a lumpy green papasan chair who are best friends. There are more books and another T.V., my favorite decoration of all; the home sweet home plate, and a retro coke thermometer. There is also a fish named Ponyo, and a sucker fish with no name, but they are also camera-shy. To the right are the stairs that lead down:

Above them sits a little castaway round table with an antique mirror, my dried wedding bouquet, a left over wedding flower centerpiece, and a glass bird. Hexagon shelves with sticks and flowers and candles in them hang above it. Down the stairs is mostly storage and clothes and a parakeet with split personality disorder, but I like this corner with it's chair that may be stolen, and a shelf full of curiosities and more chrome.

Dear little home, even with all of our clutter and knick-knacks and nights stayed up late, thank you for loving us and being warm and bright and keeping all of the bad out and the merry inside. Thank you for all of your quirks and for accepting all of ours. I hope we have many years together to come.

Fever Kisses

This has been a lovely gray Sunday. Despite the rain, and the gloom, my heart is warm and full :)

I got to spend, not one, but TWO movie date nights with my Yeti already.
(By the way, Thor is great, Priest is gory, but great.)
I also got a shopping/movie/pizza day with my sweet sister in law :)
I don't have much to blog about, so I'll just leave you with some writing I've done recently and some outfit pics:

Basically everything above was from target. Target cowl, dress, cardigan, necklace, tights. Antic Shoes.

My Papa, he swore he could track daddy long legs by their scent. "Just like vinegar." He'd say. Daddy long legs are the most poisonous spiders on the whole Earth, but they were made without fangs to inject it. I can see it in his eyes sometimes. Like when I pierced my belly button with a sewing needle or stayed out too late with a boy. I saw the most poisonous venom on Earth behind his eyelashes but he just shook his head and walked away, perfuming the air with disappointment, and the slight scent of vinegar.

She kissed his fever on the throat- the mouth, hips, the tympanic membrane. She kissed his fever into the bright orange light of early morning. She kissed in slow, small circles, like chain links, with the fresh wet cold of night grass. She left out the window in an afternoon storm.

Thank you for reading, feel free to comment and follow. Have a great night :)

Healing

Sorry for the long blog absence. We’ve been going through some rough times and it‘s been hard to find words. Last Thursday we went to the ER again for heavy bleeding, and 13 hours later left much worse for wear. With my hormone count at almost 50,000, they still couldn’t find a heartbeat, and the ultrasound results had not changed. They ended up doing a suction D and C, which is where they remove the remaining tissue from the uterus after a failed pregnancy. It was all very scary and sad, but we’re slowly recovering and recouping. And let me tell you, without the love and devotion of my husband, and the ever present peace of our God, we wouldn’t have made it. Speaking of which, He is risen! Easter Sunday was yesterday, so these pictures are a little late, but I wore for the first time my darling Piano Lesson Dress, by Elsie at Red Velvet, who also writes one of my most favorite blogs of all time! http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/ :)
The dress was an anniversary gift from my Yeti, so thank you!! <3
I’ve never been “put under” before, or had any surgical procedures of any kind for that matter before, so it was all very strange. Waking up from the anesthesia, before I even opened my eyes, I was calling for “Yeti, my husband, yeti.” which confused the nurses some, heh. When me and Calvin were in High school, we used to myspace chat or IM every night that we could, sometimes even until the sun was rising. One conversation, he was saying how he never wore a jacket because he never gets cold, so we started calling him Yeti. I called him “my yeti” which of course meant I was flirting, but he didn’t get that until years later lol. And because I’m just generally a little on the violent side and have super sharp incisors, he started calling me vampress, (vampire princess, tehe) which of course meant he was flirting, and I definitely knew it ^_^. Fast forward a few years, we’re Yeti and the Vamp, and I’m more used to calling him Yeti than Calvin. So calling for my yeti at the hospital was very normal to me and very confusing the the staff . Eventually, I came around, and after a life-changing grape popsicle, was feeling much more myself. A few wobbly knee’d hours later, we got to go home and try to recover emotionally, as well as physically.

Clarification: snow, not dandruff.
I’m having some residual weird cramping and had an extremely scratched up throat from the breathing tube they put in, but other than that we’ve been doing okay. It still hurts to see baby commercials, and happy moms with adorably dressed bundles in their arms, but I know that this isn’t the end. We still have a whole future of babies and grand babies to look forward to, and honestly, even if we never can have any, I am wholly fulfilled by the love and adoration to and from my husband, family, and creator.

Yes, I know I have very bent pinky fingers :P
As you can see, I couldn't really decide how to style the dress completely, so I did a few different options :P Also, cute tiny one polka dot nails! Hehe.

I know with most blogs that it’s generally frowned upon to not be Mrs. Uppity Optimism all the time, which is why I’ve been reluctant to post details of everything that’s happened lately. But I trust that you guys can bear with me through the rough times, because there are surely brighter days ahead, promise.

Also, one a side note:
I bought this amazing old super heavy metal Brother sewing machine at a thrift store, for only ten dollars! I hope to learn how to do some clothes altering soon, after my mom teaches me how to use it! :)

And, while thrifting, we found a couple new ugly owl figurines to add to my collection. They're the two cat looking ones on the bottom shelf. Collecting these little guys has been a hobby of mine for a couple of years now. I know they’re nothing much to most people, but their sentimental value vastly outweighs their monetary value! I love each of them so much! :)

Thanks so much for reading, and, as always, feel free to follow, comment, and share! Have a great day! :)
